Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Angewandten Forschung E.V.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM Freiburg is a research institution with approximately 300 employees, which has a long tradition in characterization and modelling of damage mechanisms in metallic materials for high temperature applications. According to its mission, the Fraunhofer IWM serves as a link between basic research and industrial application. The research group “Lifetime concepts, thermomechanics” consists of 15 scientific and technical members and possesses ten high temperature fatigue test rigs suited for both isothermal and nonisothermal fatigue loading. The Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT is a research institution with approximately 500 employees. The Project Group – New Drive Systems located in Karlsruhe is affiliated to the ICT and consequently aims to advance applied research and pilot-level product development in areas like hybrid power trains and customer relevant testing of drivetrains.
